For over 17 years, I have lived on St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia, amidst the magnolias and marshes. As a pastel artist, my work is a tribute to the magnificent land and its history.
I am inspired by the island's expansive views, a blessing of the flat land. The landscape here offers an abundance of colors in every imaginable shade. I aim to capture all the variations in my paintings as well as convey my personal experiences living and growing artistically in the South.
I moved here from Los Angeles in 1989. It was on St. Simons Island, after years of working with oils, I began to experiment with all mediums: watercolor, acrylic, tempera, pen and ink, acrylic and pastels. I found pastels to be the perfect medium for my work today.
As a child, my mother, also an artist, inspired my sister, Raye Burnett
(www.rayeburnett.com), and me with her talent, passion and discipline. My work today reflects the gifts my mother has passed down.
